Trailer time! Pt. 5 : Here comes … September!

Where did the summer go, man?! It’s like .. dark already. It’s been raining for a week, definitelty brining my summer spirits down. A week before I get back to sunny Glasgae and my studies in Sociology. On the plus side, there films come out when their supposed to, and not 3 months later (yeah, screw you Finland!). Also, the best seasons for movies is approaching. Here are a few gems coming out in September (some in the UK, some in the US, probably none in Finland ……..) :

September’s biggest blockbuster comes to you with names like Damon, Winslet, Law, Paltrow, Fishburne, Hawkes. Directed by Mr. Soderbergh Contagion is guaranteed entertainment.

Take Shelter

Despite Chastain’s terrible skills as an interviewee (did you see her on Conan? cringe..) she’s soon becoming one of my favourite ‘new’ actresses. Teaming up with Michael Shannon this Sundance favourite has received mixed responses. A feature that groundbreaking films usually have!

Baseball movies can be very hit and miss (no pun intended). With Pitt, Wright and the newly slimmed Jonah Hill seem to be bringing out the Oscar bait Jerry Maguire-style.

Ok.. So I’m totally on the JGL train, everyone aboard! That’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt that is. Teaming up with Seth Rogen, in a cancer comedy. What’s funnier than cancer, right?

Straw Dogs

Ok .. It’s a remake. And Kate Bosworth is “acting” in it. BUT, it’s a really interesting tale, and I really dug the Hoffman joint, so I’ll definitely check this out. And a Skarsgård is always a bonus.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

If there ever was a dream cast … This UK feature brings it with Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Mark Strong, Toby Jones .. wowza.

  1. Aren’t you lucky you can put ‘Tinker Taylor’ on your September list!! It won’t be released in the US until December :( That’s the only one I’m anticipating from your list.

  2. wtf! contagion is getting here until december, 50/50 doesn’t have a release date yet and TTSS is october. i want to see all of them. and strangely i want to see all of them at the cinema. that happens so rarely. i also want to see moneyball but im not in any hurry. as for straw dogs remake, if there’s any justice in the world it will bomb. i shall leave now to refrain from my remake rant.

  3. Looks like a good and stacked September ahead of you! Lucky about the whole release date for “Tinker, Tailor..” comes early for you and we have to wait two more months! Grrrr

  4. WHAT? You get to see all these films in September? I’m so jealous of you right now.

I guess I’ll be able to see a few of them, I’m just really jealous of TTSS.

  5. It goes without saying that I’m looking forward to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy – great to see Gary Oldham fronting a big film.

…but thanks for bringing to my attention Moneyball. This looks like another really good sports movie and having followed the fortunes of the Oakland Athletics somewhat it will be great to see a film about their story.

    • Yeah, only in the UK. I can’t see him being cast as a lead in Hollywood. (Fingers crossed, maybe after this?)

I actually _love_ baseball movies, basketball movies; there’s something about the ‘underdog becomes hero’ aspect that I enjoy, this seems to be a somewhat similar story. They never do good movies of football though : s

  6. Looking forward to most of those movies, most notably Take Shelter and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Glad the summer blockbuster season is over, it was pretty damn boring overall.

  7. Kind of jealous that ‘Tinker, Tailor’ comes out in September for you guys, but I’ll gladly after getting your thoughts on the film.
