23/30 The Big Lebowski (1998)

The Film You Can Quote Best

Maude Lebowski: What do you do for recreation?
The Dude: Oh, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.

The Dude: Fuck sympathy! I don’t need your fuckin’ sympathy, man, I need my fucking johnson!
Donny: What do you need that for, Dude?

Walter Sobchak: Nihilists! Fuck me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it’s an ethos.

The Dude: Look, just stay away from my fucking lady friend.
Da Fino: Hey, I’m not messing with your special lady.
The Dude: She’s not my special lady, she’s my fucking lady friend. I’m just helping her conceive, man!

The Dude: That rug really tied the room together.

The Dude: Hey, careful, man, there’s a beverage here!

Donny: Are these the Nazis, Walter?
Walter Sobchak: No, Donny, these men are nihilists. There’s nothing to be afraid of.

The Dude: Jesus, man, could you change the channel?
Cab Driver: Fuck you man. If you don’t like my fuckin’ music get your own fuckin’ cab!
The Dude: I had a rough…
Cab Driver: I pull over and kick your ass out!
The Dude: Come on, man. I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin’ Eagles, man!

Well, you could basically just post the goddamn script here and it would be pure gold, man. If the world has produced anything more awesome than Jeff Bridges I haven’t seen it.

  1. “If the world has produced anything more awesome than Jeff Bridges I haven’t seen it.”

Oh yeah? Well, that’s just, like, uh… your OPINION, man.

  2. “New shit has come to light”
“Her life was in your hands”
“Everytime a rug is mituated upon..”
    “Obviously your not a bowler.”
“Does it look like I’m married? The toilet seat is up, man.”

    Endless. Love it!

  3. With great trepidation, I will admit that I just don’t get this film! Sure it is funny in places but I just didn’t engage with it.

I agree about Jeff Bridges though – phenomenal actor.

  4. Together with Withnail and I, this remains the single most quotable movie in history. You’re absolutely right!
