Trailer time! Pt. 4 : Summertime, and the livin’ is easy..

We’ve been experiencing some pretty nice weather up here in the North (by North I mean both Finland (which is actually in the North) and Scotland (which is well .. North of England)), so much so actually that we’ve been hitting summer temperatures. That means it’s time to look at some fun, sunny, heartfelt films coming out in May and June!

Midnight in Paris

As Woody Allen continues his American-European love affair, we are treated to a Midnight in Paris. As Allen has already given up on making ‘one of the best films of all time’ he is in turn focusing on these glimpses of people’s lives, moments in time, portraying neurotic, fun characters in awe of the so-called European way of life (You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Vicky Cristina Barcelona). Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams make a cute on-screen couple, and we get glimpses of everyone’s crush, the lovely Marion Cotillard. Opens on May 20th in the Us, spread out through the fall months in Europe.

The Tree Of Life

I have to admit that I’ve never been the biggest fan of Terrence Malick, even though I very much enjoyed The Thin Red Line, but there is simply no denying his visual artistry. The Tree of Life has been shrudded in secrecy, but when the trailer got released it cretaed a wonderful buzz due to it’s amazing visuality and beauty. I have a feeling this is going to be a good one; set in the 50’s the eldest son ‘witnessess a loss of innocence’ is all that’s been led on from the plot. Pitt, Penn and Chastain star. Opens 4th of May in the UK, 27th of May in the US and Finland in August.

Beginners

Did you guys ever see Thumbsucker? Well it’s by this guy with pretty eccentric taste and sense of style, Mike Mills, who’s coming out with this new film Beginners. He’s also done music videos for bands like Air. I like him. This film seems like a gem. You can rarely go wrong with a Christopher PlummerEwan McGregor combo anyway. Also there’s a talking dog. Out 3rd of June in the US, UK and Finland in July.

Super 8

Super 8 is from the geniuslike hands of J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg, a mystery-sci-fi-thriller-adventure starring loads and loads of kids. The E.T. is strong in this one. Great trailer, builds up the anticipation of the non-leaked storyline. Opens in the US on June 10, Finland July 29 and UK August 19.

The Help

Based on Kathryn Stockett’s great novel, The Help, looks like an easygoing, light summer favourite, with some of the most talented female actors working today. Viola Davis is wonderul in everything she does, Sissy Spacek comes out of a great role in the widely appreciated Big Love and Emma Stone seems to be the new offbeat American girl next door. Great writing should at least make this a cute summer hit. Ok, so I lied, this is not out until August though (US) … : – ( And Europe’s probably going to get a taste of this in the peek of Winter, 2011/2012.

  1. Oh Beginners is a must see film! Seems very funny and cute :) And amazing cast, I almost squealed when I saw that Mélanie Laurent is also in it! Can’t wait to see this one.

Super 8 also seems interesting, looking forward to that one as well :)

    • I thought the dog bit was way too cute. It seems like they all have a good chemistry together, can’t wait!

Hope Super 8 lives up to expectations, there’s been a lot of buzz.

  2. Can’t wait for The Tree of Life, seems like a magical woman and so does Beginners. I liked all of the trailers though, they all seem good :).

  3. Nice batch of trailers from movies I actually want to see. The Tree of Life is easily my most anticipated of the year, definitely intrigued by Super 8 and Midnight in Paris seems like a charming enough time in the City of Lights!
