Top 5 : Movie Posters

The art of creating a compelling movieposter is a tricky one. Obviously you can count on the classic ways (mostly a very skimply clothed female) of advertising, but what makes them interesting is giving a little taste of something very intruiging. Colours, editing, talent, famous actors and big names are all very important, but the idea, the trick, is what makes a great poster. Here are 5 that I found to give me that sense of intrigue.

Number 5

Lord Of War
– Idiomatic, clever, very Cagey.

Number 4

Inglorious Basterds
– Bold but simple. Makes an impact without shouting it.

Number 3

– The poster made me want to love this film. I didn’t.

Number 2

Man On Wire
– Captures perfectly the balance of opposites. Life, death. Being sane, being mad.

Number 1

– It’s iconic. It’s more terrifying than any of the motion imagery in the film and it’s Jaws for sharks sake.

If I may include a few more that I think are also great that I can remember off the top of my head :

Schindler’s List, Alien, Taxi Driver, The Shining, Ikiru, The Nightmare Before Christmas…
